Job Role: Marketing and Communications Manager

Salary: £32,000

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week

Contract type: Permanent

Location: Bath or Exeter, with opportunities for hybrid working

Additional information:

  • Travel may be required across the South West on occasion

The Role:

Julian House has been providing life-changing and life-saving support for vulnerable and at-risk people for 35 years, growing from a single project in Bath to deliver a range of services across the South West. Despite our reach, we are still best-known in the city where it all started.

As the charity seeks to establish itself as a significant force for tackling social exclusion across the region, we are looking for a strategic, creative Marketing and Communications Manager to lead our ambitious profile-raising strategy. This strategy will see the post-holder working closely with the Fundraising and Marketing director to drive improvements across all of our channels; craft inspiring campaigns to reach our target audiences; work across traditional and digital media to tell our client’s stories; and generate local, regional and national media coverage of the issues we care about.

This is a brand-new role, and you will be empowered to take the lead on exciting strategic projects, as well as line managing the Marketing and Communications Officer and supporting them to thrive. If you are looking to apply your wide-ranging marketing and communications experience to a new challenge in support of our powerful mission, this could be the role for you.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing delivery of our profile-raising strategy for Julian House and Julian House Trading, working across PR and traditional media, social media, website, campaigns and profile-raising partnerships.

  • Leading a comprehensive review of our owned channels and devising improvement plans for each, to ensure we have a strong foundation for brand building.

  • Devising strategies for social media and email to ensure we reach our audiences with high-quality, targeted content that inspires them to act.

  • Curating a high-quality content calendar to be delivered across owned channels in support of the profile raising strategy.

  • Researching, preparing and pitching stories to local and national media to highlight Julian House’s experience and expertise in the social inclusion space.

  • Acting as a brand guardian for Julian House, ensuring that colleagues across the organisation are using our brand principles and brand story to deliver consistent messages to our audiences.

  • Tracking and reporting on key performance indicators which will show us if our strategy is working; and making suggestions on how we can improve our approach if needed.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Demonstrable track record of managing marketing and communications strategies, preferably in the charity sector.

  • Experience of delivering content and campaigns across a range of channels and audiences, from social media to websites to print media and PR.

  • Knowledge of SEO, keywords and other digital marketing tactics and tools, including how to use digital analytics to track the impact of communications and marketing output.

  • Strong understanding of the power of storytelling in securing support for brands.

  • Knowledge of the homelessness or social inclusion sectors would be desirable, but not essential.
