Post: Senior Project Manager (Capital Projects) - The Woolwich Centre office transformation

Hours: 35 hours per week

Fixed term contract for 18 months

Are you an experience project manager that has delivered workspace optimisation and transformation projects? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Corporate Projects delivery team within RBG on a fixed term basis to deliver key reorganisation and modernisation of the Council's main office buildings.

The Person

With experience of managing complex projects you will be a strong communicator able to engage and lead stakeholders on the journey transforming their methods and place(s) of work to suit the business functions of a modern Local Authority. Experienced in navigating procurement and governance you will lead the procurement and appointment of consultants and contractor(s) delivering the office transformation managing the works to successful conclusion.

The Role

The Senior Project Manager will lead a number of projects transforming the Council offices and buildings to suit modern methods of working and enable hybrid working, the inward movement of staff from local Council Offices and the optimisation of floor usage. Strong stakeholder management and understanding / experience of cultural change in a hybrid working environment will be key to the successful completion of this project, along with robust procurement and project management. The project is currently at RIBA stage 0/1.

The Projects

The Woolwich Centre is the Council's centre of operations and sits on Wellington Street in Woolwich town centre. The building incorporates a library on the lower ground floor with a reception and customer contact area on the ground floor and then 5 floors of office space with an events space on the 6th floor (the gallery). As hybrid working has been implemented it is no longer necessary for many of the staff to be office based therefore the office is running at about 40% capacity. Rationalising the use of the office space should enable two whole floors to be emptied and then free to be utilised in the open market to deliver a rental income to the Council.

There are other buildings being used by the Council and in addition to the optimisation of the floor space, there will be additional projects to review these other sites to determine whether staff can move and free up space and/or assets elsewhere.

In parallel to the above, the Council has launched a Future of Work project to analyse the optimal design for it working environment, install some pilot spaces to test functionality and then roll out the preferred design across the estate. This role will take the lead on this project to ensure alignment and compatibility.
