About the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC):

We are a respected regulatory body that regulates pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacies in Great Britain. We work to assure and improve standards of care for people using pharmacy services.

We are proud of our diverse and inclusive culture and are committed to holding ourselves to the same standards we expect of others.

We are looking for several Registrant Members, Lay Members and Chairs to join our Fitness to Practise Committee and Investigating Committee.

The Role:

We are offering unique and flexible roles within our independent Statutory Committees. You will make a vital contribution to patient safety and public confidence in the pharmacy professions, whilst developing transferable skills and demonstrating the GPhC’s core values.

Members of our Investigating Committee and Fitness to Practise Committee sit as a panel of 3 at hearings and meetings. You will be statutory decision makers sitting on cases where a pharmacist or pharmacy technician’s fitness to practise has been called into question. You will work with committee colleagues to reach decisions that protect the public, maintain standards and uphold public confidence in the profession.

We encourage applications from those who have never been part of a committee - full training will be provided. We would particularly welcome applicants who are currently under-represented on our committees, including those from a range of backgrounds, including people with disabilities, people from ethnic minority backgrounds, all age ranges including those early in their careers.

The roles are remunerated, and reasonable expenses will be covered (in line with the GPhC’s Associates and Partners expenses policy).

Applying for this role:

Please note: The eligibility criteria are different for each role.

Lay Members: must have never been registered with the GPhC or any other health or social care regulator.

Registrant Members: must currently be registered with the GPhC and have experience of pharmacy practice.

Deputy Chairs: must be a Lay Member and have never been registered with the GPhC or any other health or social care regulator.

Please note that GPhC staff members, employed over the last five years are not eligible to apply.

If you feel you have the required experience and skills please complete the application form which you can find on our website by clicking on the Apply button – you will also find further information about these roles here including details of remuneration. Incidentally a CV and cover letter will not be considered.

Location: we are interested in people located anywhere in Great Britain. Many hearings take place remotely, but some are in person at our office based in Canary Wharf.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community and geographical locations in Great Britain.

Closing date: 6 May 2024 (5pm)

Interview dates: 1 to 19 July 2024 (Excluding 3 and 16 July)
