Customer Service Adviser

£25,128 - £29,296 per annum

Barnstaple

Permanent, Full Time

Do you thrive on helping people and finding solutions? Are you someone who can stay calm under pressure, build rapport quickly, and turn challenging conversations into positive outcomes?

If you're looking for a role where every day brings something different and where your work genuinely makes a difference to people's lives, we'd love to hear from you.

At North Devon Homes, we're passionate about providing safe, affordable homes and excellent services for our customers. As a registered charity and housing association, we manage more than 3,300 homes across North Devon and provide housing and support to over 10,000 customers.

We're looking for a Customer Service Adviser to join our busy and supportive team.

About the role

As the first point of contact for our customers, you'll play a vital role in delivering a positive customer experience, whether that's over the phone, by email or face to face. From repair enquiries and rent accounts to anti-social behaviour concerns and wider housing-related matters, you'll be helping customers navigate a wide range of situations, often at times when they need support the most.

This is a rewarding role, but it's also one that requires resilience. Often customers you speak to may be frustrated, upset or facing difficult circumstances. You'll be able to remain calm, professional and empathetic, listening carefully to understand their concerns and asking insightful questions to get to the heart of the issue. You'll be confident managing challenging conversations without taking criticism personally and able to explain processes, decisions and solutions in a clear way that customers can easily understand.

You'll enjoy problem-solving and have a natural curiosity that helps you diagnose issues accurately and find the right resolution first time. Whether you're identifying the details of a repair request, signposting a customer to the most appropriate service, or providing practical advice and guidance, you'll take pride in delivering a high-quality service that leaves customers feeling supported and informed.

About you

We're looking for someone who can work at pace and manage a high volume of enquiries across multiple channels while maintaining exceptional customer care. You'll be adaptable, organised and able to recover quickly from difficult interactions, moving confidently from one enquiry to the next while maintaining a positive and professional approach throughout the day.

Strong communication and teamwork are at the heart of this role. You'll work closely with colleagues across the organisation and with external partners, building positive working relationships that help us deliver the best possible outcomes for our customers. As a valued member of the team, you'll contribute positively to team goals, share knowledge and support colleagues to achieve success together.

Experience of working with computer systems and learning new technology is important, as you'll use a variety of systems and databases throughout your working day. Most importantly, you'll be customer-focused, compassionate and committed to delivering outstanding service.

If you're looking for a career where you can make a genuine difference to your local community, develop your skills and be part of a friendly and supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.

North Devon Homes is predominately an office-based, with a strong emphasis on team working and service delivery.

Due to the nature of the role, successful candidates will be required to complete a basic DBS check.

Previous applicants within the last six months need not re-apply.

Closing Date: 31 October 2026 - 09:00

Interviews: We will be inviting applicants to interview throughout the month, closing the vacancy when we have successfully appointed. Please don’t delay with your application!

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. As part of this commitment, we operate a guaranteed interview scheme for disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role to which they have applied.

If you require this advert in an alternative format or need support with the application process, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
