Seasalt is a modern Cornish company with an ambitious vision. As a successful omnichannel retailer spanning over 70 shops, 400 wholesale stockists and online, we're always challenging ourselves to think creatively and innovate. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced data management professional to join us in a key role, leading data governance for the business.

As a Data Governance Manager, you’ll help drive the necessary strategy and actions to deliver high quality, reliable data for downstream usage, working closely with colleagues across the business. Collaboratively, you’ll develop and manage our business wide approach to key data governance topics such as data quality management and data ownership, as well as the creation and maintenance of group wide business glossaries and data dictionaries.

Please note this role is based remotely within the UK, with occasional travel to our Cornwall head offices.

First stage interviews will be held on Thursday 6th July and second stage on Tuesday 11th July.

You’ll help us by:

  • Establishing data governance standards, frameworks, documentation and tools that enable self-serve reporting and accountable freedom

  • Providing guidance on optimal data governance, data management, and data quality best practices for new and existing initiatives

  • Providing tools, dashboards and establishing metrics to monitor the quality of our data

  • Undertaking periodic data maturity assessments in conjunction with the Head of Data & Analytics

  • Cultivating a network of data owners and stewards across Seasalt and supporting them in improving our data quality

  • Overseeing and managing deliverables and processes for our business data glossary, ensuring that they are accessible, clear and agreed data definitions in place

  • Communicating, publishing and managing assets related to data governance including but not restricted to publishing and evangelising the data assets available with a focus on data definitions, catalogue and glossary

  • Chairing and managing a cross-functional Data Council function to facilitate resolution of data quality issues and maintain a register of Seasalt data issues and risks

  • Influencing and implementing new processes for proper data change control and communication, being responsible for evangelising our expanding certified data assets

  • Working cross functionally within Data & Analytics, Technology, Compliance and other Departments across the business to provide advice and ensure data quality best practice

  • Liaising with third parties where relevant to ensure they are meeting their data governance contractual obligations

The skills you’ll be sharing with the team:

With a background in data management and working knowledge of end-to-end data management principles, you’ll have proven experience in implementing and managing data governance processes and policies. This will have been supported by your excellent communication skills with difference audiences, making you able to articulate technical concepts in plain English and influence senior leaders to adapt to modern practises.

You’ll be comfortable delivering results through projects you lead, independently or through a team you manage, with a consultative approach to collaboration and strong leadership skills. Experience authoring and maintaining data dictionaries and glossaries is a given, as is experience with master data quality tools, data warehousing, API and ELT process experience. It would be beneficial for you to have Certified Data Management Professional certification or similar.
