The Role



An opportunity has arisen for an Employability Co-ordinator at Merton College. This exciting role is for an individual to work within an Employability Team to build on our existing external employer partnerships, build new ones, and oversee the monitoring and organisation of Work Placements, and Employability activities for our full-time learners.



 



Main Purposes and Responsibilities Responsible to: The Head of Employability



 



Responsible for: Ensuring all our Study Programme/T-Level learners gain meaningful work experience/ industry placements, ensuring health and safety policies and practices are adhered to. Monitoring and recording work experience/placements on College systems. The development and implementation of a range of employability and employer related activities relevant to our students.



 



General Duties of the Post




  • Develop new and existing partnerships with employers to develop the college’s work experience and employer engagement activities. Source work experience/placements and support learners to find work experience.



 




  • Attend external networking events, including some evenings where required, to build and maintain relationships with external partners.



 




  • Ensure work experience placements and employability activities are recorded correctly on Connect, EBS, Pro-monitor and any other relevant repository.



 




  • Support learners across the School of Employability with the completion of DBS applications where required.



 




  • Work with course teams to ensure the setting and monitoring of meaningful reflection on the work experience that is closely linked to the student programme and aspirations.



 




  • Attend college meetings as required.



 




  • Participate in parents’ evenings, open days and social functions during and outside normal hours.



 




  • Organise visits and liaise with outside/specialist agencies and employers.



 




  • Organise and take part in day and residential courses in the UK and abroad, where appropriate.



 




  • Adopt a consistent approach in dealing with student discipline in accordance with College policy.



 




  • Ensure all work placements have been correctly risk assessed and are compliant with a safe working environment. Visit or call work placements before, during and after work placement



 




  • Keep abreast of developments in their specialist fields and in the fields of education and training.



 




  • Participate fully in professional development, undertaking of training or re-training and the acquisition of essential qualifications.



 




  • Be an active team member and participate fully in meetings, career conventions, in-service training sessions, conferences, seminars, open evenings and student assessment evenings etc. in addition to their administrative responsibilities



 




  • Keep up-to-date with Quality Improvement initiatives and to be aware of, and meet, service standards for the college.



 




  • Propose any ideas that may help to promote and extend the College’s reputation and efficient running of the College.



 




  • Be available to assist in enrolment procedures, which may require additional hours including evenings and weekends, for example during the Autumn Term.



 




  • Perform other duties as may be required by the Principal or their representatives in order to ensure the efficient functioning of the College.



 




  • As a list of general duties, the above is not exhaustive and the holder of the post will be required to work flexibly with colleagues to facilitate this development.      


£19,116 - £20,485 per annum
