Job Role: Refugee Support Worker          



Salary: £18,592 - £19,690 (FTE £23,240 - £24,612)                  



Hours: 30 hours per week             



Contract type: Permanent



Location: Kingswood, covering South Gloucestershire​



Additional information:




  • ​ Willingness and ability to work flexibly with very occasional evening and weekend work

  • 10% additional responsibility allowance will be given to fluent Arabic speakers



The Role:

The successful Refugee Support Worker will have excellent communication skills, a welcoming personality and the ability to adapt to unexpected situations. Your focus will be supporting Afghan, Syrian and North African clients and empowering people of all ages that have been resettled in South Gloucestershire and helping them integrate into their new lives in the UK.

This is a varied and emotionally demanding role that will sometimes involve a degree of unpredictability in terms of day-to-day tasks, as client issues crop up unexpectedly. 



Responsibilities include: 




  • You will be running drop-in sessions across multiple hubs in South Gloucestershire.

  • You will be supporting a caseload of refugee families, resettled via various UK government schemes including refugees from Ukraine, Syria and Afghanistan.

  • Support individuals and families in a manner that prioritises their empowerment and independence

  • Take a lead professional role in coordinating multi-agency support around the family, including organising and leading meetings between the family and the professionals supporting them

  • Support families to access schools, English classes, suitable housing, welfare benefits, healthcare and wellbeing services, employment and training



Qualifications / Requirements: 




  • A valid UK driving licence and access to own vehicle - business insurance will be required for roles involving travel to work

  • Experience supporting refugees from Afghan, Syria and North Africa

  • A candidate who can speak fluent Arabic is desirable but not essential
