Who we are looking for

We are looking to recruit an interim Director of Regulation and Accreditation to join our Executive Leadership Team for 12 months to cover the current Director’s sabbatical from April 2025 to March 2026. This role may be filled under a fixed-term contract or as a secondment from another organisation.

Who we are

The Professional Standards Authority (PSA) promotes the health, safety and wellbeing of patients, service users and the public by raising standards of regulation and registration of people working in health and care. We are an independent body, accountable to the UK Parliament.

About the role

The Regulation and Accreditation Directorate is responsible for ensuring the PSA is meeting statutory obligations in relation to its duty to oversee the 10 statutory health and social care regulators and to manage the Accredited Registers programme. The role also involves representing the PSA externally in relation to the statutory obligations in interactions with the senior management of the regulators, the four Departments of Health and Social Care, accredited registers and the Privy Council.

This role will also work as part of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to lead the organisation and contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic and business plans

About you

We are looking to recruit an individual who can:

  • Support the Chief Executive in the running of the organisation as a member of ELT

  • Contribute to the development of the corporate strategy and its implementation through business planning, budget setting, risk management and objectives directly concerning the work of the Regulation and Accreditation Directorate

  • Lead the Regulation and Accreditation Directorate in the effective delivery of the PSA’s statutory functions, such as reviewing fitness to practise decisions, reporting to Parliament on the performance of the 10 regulators and managing the Accredited Registers programme

  • Advise the PSA’s Board, ELT and staff on regulation and accreditation issues as well as any other issues falling within the particular expertise of the Directorate

  • Represent the PSA at meetings/conferences and give presentations on issues relating to the PSA

  • Ensure the maintenance of good working relationships with the regulators, external legal advisers, other relevant statutory bodies, accredited registers and the four Departments of Health and Social Care.

  • You will need the enthusiasm and drive to understand the field we work in, and a strong commitment to protecting patients, service users and the public. You will also need to share our values of integrity, transparency, respect, fairness and teamwork.

We are committed to promoting a fair and inclusive workplace where all our staff can flourish and reach their full potential. We know that a diverse workforce, at all levels, allows for a more creative and productive environment bringing different viewpoints, knowledge and experience. Therefore, we are keen to improve the diversity within our organisation and would like to encourage individuals who come from a diverse range of backgrounds. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.

As a Disability Confident employer, we will guarantee an interview for people with disabilities who meet all the essential criteria and so if you would like to be considered under this scheme then please let us know.

Benefits

We offer a range of benefits, including 32.5 days annual leave a year pro rata plus bank holidays, an interest-free season ticket loan, and access to an employee assistance programme.

We operate a hybrid working policy of two days in the office and three days at home per week (pro rata for part-time staff). However, new staff will be expected to work three days a week through their probation period to allow for induction and training.
