Everything we do at bdht revolves around providing safe, affordable homes and delivering excellent services to our customers. Ensuring our rents and service charges are accurate, transparent and compliant is fundamental to achieving this, helping us provide value for money while supporting the long-term sustainability of our homes and services.

We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented Rent & Service Charge Officer to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in rent setting, service charge management and leaseholder administration, working across the organisation to ensure high-quality financial services that support both our customers and our business objectives.

The Role

Reporting to the Rents & Service Charges Manager, you will work autonomously and collaboratively across the organisation, taking ownership of a variety of rent, service charge and leasehold finance activities.

You will play a central role in the annual rent and service charge setting process, ensuring service charge costs are accurately recorded and that charges are calculated, reconciled and communicated effectively. Acting as a first point of contact for day-to-day rent and service charge enquiries, you will provide expert support and guidance to colleagues and customers alike.

The role includes responsibility for leaseholder administration and communications, including annual estimated and actual charge reconciliations, coordinating LPE1 applications and supporting major works charging processes. You will also lead on the annual variable service charge reconciliation process for social rent customers and work closely with colleagues across Finance, Asset Management and Development to maintain accurate stock information and income forecasts.

In addition, you will support the production of management accounts, contribute to annual budgets and year-end accounts, undertake financial reconciliations and assist with insurance administration, claims and renewal processes. A key aspect of the role will be identifying opportunities for continuous improvement to strengthen processes, compliance and customer outcomes.

About You

We are seeking an organised and analytical individual with experience working in a financial environment and a strong understanding of variable service charge principles. You will be confident managing financial data, maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines within a busy and evolving environment.

You will possess excellent ICT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, together with strong communication and organisational abilities. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, building effective relationships across teams and providing clear information to both colleagues and customers.

AAT qualification, current AAT studies, or a willingness to undertake professional training would be advantageous. Experience within the affordable housing sector, knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework surrounding rents and service charges, and exposure to insurance processes would also be beneficial.

Most importantly, you will be proactive, adaptable and customer focused, with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality services. You will share bdht's values, treating customers and colleagues with honesty, respect and fairness while taking pride in making a positive difference.
